4 Essential Types of Metal Fabrication Processes

Metal fabrication is the process of manipulating and changing the original forms of metals in order to create components to be used as end products. Several procedures are followed in actualizing the concepts to final products. Outfits sculptured in the fabrication process are used in various fields such as computing, automotive, aeronautics and medical, among others. The most common form of metal fabrication is sheet metal fabrication which involves the use of advanced techniques in bending, cutting and finishing metal components and machined parts. It is always advised to seek out a professional metal fabrication company to help you with your processes.

Cutting

Metals are often cut into different shapes and sizes depending on the requirements of a given metal fabrication project. Though highly dependent on a number of factors, both traditional cutting processes through the use of aviation snips, power scissors or mechanical bladed saws, and modern high precision laser cutting techniques are used. The tools are used to trim the metal sheets being fabricated into the desired shapes and sizes.

Punching

Some metal fabrication projects require holed surfaces, which can only be crafted through various punching tools. In the process of punching, pressure is applied on metal surfaces in order to create clean cut holes by removing slugs and scrap from the intended surface. For more meaningful use, geometric holes that are rectangular, square or oval are punched. This ensures that they always meet the needs of the end user effectively. Scrap from the punching process may be melted down and recycled for use in other projects.

Shearing and nibbling

In metal shearing, pressure is applied on surfaces in order to cut them into shape and size and shape from below and above. On the other hand, nibbling involves the creation of counterpaceed lines on overlapping notches and folds created on a metal surface.

Blanking and stamping

The process of creating and duplicating pre-shaped designs from a sheet of metal is called blanking. It involves the creation of blank pieces of metal outfits of different shapes and size. On the other hand, stamping involves the use of embossing technologies to create raised or depressed surface sculpture on metal surfaces.
